Banca March was founded by Majorcan businessman Juan March Ordinas and opened for business on 1st April 1926. The first branch was opened in central Palma in Calle San Miguel, number 11, in a building which stands out for its great architectural beauty. Today, this building not only houses this branch but also the Museo de Arte Español Contemporáneo, which is under the management of the Fundación Juan March .

In 1927 the branches in Llucmajor, Inca and Felanitx were opened, and in 1928 Manacor followed. In this way, after only two years, Banca March had a presence in some of the most important towns of Majorca for their business and industrial activity.

From that time, a consolidation period for our bank was initiated, which stretched until the sixties, when the tourist industry became the economic engine of the Balearic Islands and there was a dramatic increase in the number of hotel beds.

In the seventies Mr. Carlos March took over as president of Banca March, S.A. Moreover, the decree concerning the banking deregulation of 1974 allowed banking institutions to establish their branches anywhere in the country. These two facts gave rise to a period of great expansion and growth for the branch network of Banca March, which completed its presence in Menorca and Ibiza, and also enabled the opening of several branches in Barcelona, Madrid, Salamanca and Valladolid. The expansion was finished by the opening of the emblematic building which to this date still houses the Head Office of our bank.

At the end of the eighties, to be more precise in 1989, the first branch of the Canaries was opened in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which meant a turning point towards a crucial expansion in places where our know-how offers us undisputed advantages over other competing banks.

In line with this and in a supporting role, in March 1994 Banca March opened its branch in London, key point for the tourist industry, which is located in the heart of the City, in the famous financial mile.

Nowadays, Banca March is one of the main regional banks in Spain, with more than 200 branches spread over the Balearic and Canary Islands and currently expanding into Andalusia and the Spanish Eastern coast. Moreover, we also have branches at those key points which we deem essential for our business, such as Madrid, Barcelona and London.
